How to Prepare for an Employee Benefits Consultation

By Strata Shield Insurance Solutions · · 4 min read

A first consultation works best when it is a conversation about your business rather than a data-collection exercise. Still, a few facts make it far more productive.

Useful to have on hand: approximate employee count, your current plans and carriers, your renewal month, your current contribution approach, and the questions your employees ask most often.

Just as important is what not to send. Employee census files, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and any health information should never travel through a website form or ordinary email. When that information is genuinely needed, it should move through an agreed secure method.

Come with your frustrations, too. The parts of your current program that create administrative work or employee confusion are usually the most useful place to start.
